Lili St Cyr took it a level higher, to one of class, elegance, and beauty.

Lili St Cyr was born Marie Van Shaak of German Italian ancestry, In Minneapolis Minnesota. Moving at a young age to Pasedena she took ballet lessons, and started working in modeling in her teens.
Her professional career started as a chorus line dancer at the Florentine Gardens, in Hollywood. After two years she went to San Fransisco to work at the Music Box nightclub. While earning only $27.50 a week, Lili noticed the topless dancers where earning upwards of $500 a week. It didn't take long before she changed careers and embarked on her road to legend.

It didn't start out easy though, after clumsily trying to wing it through her first performance she was fired on the spot. The manager of the Music Box Fehnova later had a change of heart and helped her work out a better routine. Lili came out wearing nothing but a g-string with an invisible fishing line tied to it, at the finale of the routine the string was pulled by a hand off stage and it goes flying as the lights in the house go out simultaneously. This trick known now as "The Flying G" made her an instant success.

Four the next five years Fehnova had Lili practice Russian ballet for 3 to 4 hours a day. This is what molded her from a young gawky kid to a graceful and highly skilled dancer. During this time is when she adopted the stage name Lili St Cyr. She got the Lili for her fondness of Lillie Langtry and Lillian Russell, and the St Cyr is from a beautiful story she had read of France.

Then began the touring. Lili was seen in most major cities across Northern America. Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, and more. Her acts where quite memorable, with names like "The Wolf Woman", Afternoon of a Faun", The Ballet Dancer", "In a Persian Harem", "The Love Bird", "The Chinese Virgin" to name a hand full. Lili not only had a dislike for the normal bump and grind acts, she defied them with outrageous show stoppers like the backwards striptease. Lili would start with nothing but a g-string on and proceed to dress with the help of a maid. Lili's act even helped the newly emerging Las Vegas out of it's infancy, and helped forge it into the great entertainment mecca of today. While in Vegas she preformed her biggest and most lavish shows making her the premier striptease and burlesque act in the country. Many of the acts still seen today where trademarked and thought up by Lili St. Cyr in her Vegas days.
In 1955, Lili with the help of Howard Hughes landed her first acting job in a major motion picture the "Son of Sinbad" Sadly her movie career was short lived, and most of her parts were limited to rolls, playing an exotic dancer or herself.

After her retirement from the stage around the early 60's Lili focused her attention on, on a provocative lingerie shop on Hollywood Boulevard called "The Undie World of Lili St Cyr" Later on the enterprise was sold to another lingerie shop located in Santa Monica Boulevard which she still retains an interest in.

Club Pinup presents Betty Brosmer

Betty Brosmer has been called the definitive cheesecake model of the 1950's, and I believe it is a title well deserved. Amazingly she did so without ever revealing more than you would see at your local beach. She has a certain charm and glamour that set her apart from pack. (not to mention an 18 inch waist, wow!)

Betty was always skinny, and at the age of 11 to build up her body her aunt sent her a weight set. She had received the men's weights instead of the ladies, but decided to use them anyway. Evidently it didn't hurt, because she received her first modeling job in Sears and Roebuck catalog at the age of 14. It was visiting that same aunt in New York in the summer of 49, that met her up with top studio photographers. Those pictures where posted in Life and Time magazines as an Emerson television add.

Betty came back to L.A. around 1950-51 to pose for artists Alberto Vargas and Earl Moran. The Vargas family was very kind to her. Vargas and his wife having no children even wanted to legally adopt her.

Then it was back to New York to finish her school at Manhattan's George Washington High School. While still in school Betty received a job modeling in Blackouts at Broadway's Palace Theater. Establishing herself as a commercial and fashion model in many catalogs on the behalf of many products. All before graduating.

Now out of school she could really take off. Soon Betty was raking up the title such as Miss Television, Miss Pretty Girl, Miss Perfect Figure, Summer Queen, Venus de Milo 1952, Miss Supersonic, Miss Sweater Girl, Pin-up Queen, Miss Childs Garden, Miss Potato Chips, Miss Jones Beach, Miss Waist and Hips, Miss Cherry Queen, Miss Blue Eyes and more. She even beat out Anita Ekberg as Miss California Long Life Potatoes, receiving $3,000 for 3 days work.
Betty returned to school at UCLA and majored in Psychology, truly the ever modern California girl Betty was adherent to Zen Buddhism and Yoga, before it was trendy.

She really went big shortly after starting college, when she met up with the famous glamour photographer Keith Bernard. At first the money was good, she was making 100 to 200 dollars a day most girls only got 50 to 75. Unfortunately the contract gave Bernard exclusive rights to shoot pin-ups of her, which greatly limited her at that time. Bernard was even known to turn down work that was offered to Betty, because the contracts where so lucrative to her. (go figure?)

From 1955 to 59 Betty appeared in virtually in every top-quality men's magazine from Modern Man and Cabaret to Fling and Night and Day. She was even asked to pose for Playboy magazine, when they got word from Bernard that she would do semi nude photos. She did a photo shoot with Arthur Paul for the magazine, but the pictures where never put in Playboy due to the fact she never did pose nude for them.

April 24th 1961 Betty Brosmer married Joe Weider, and was forever known as Betty Weider. Betty had known Joe and had been his favorite model in his magazine Beauty and Figure She would later become a role model for a generation, appearing in many fitness magazines including Muscle and Fitness. First being the first great pin-up queen of post war magazines and one of the three or four definitive cheesecake models of the 50's. Second was her transformation into television's Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. Sorta the 50's version of Tarzan meets Xena.

Irish was born on Christmas day in Pawnee City, Nebraska (population:2000), the daughter of a meat inspector and one of five sisters and three brothers. She was a bit of a tomboy growing up, playing softball and basket ball, and at one point an assistant lifeguard. While in high school, she briefly studied at a local art institute.

Her first debut to the public came in August 1950 on the cover of Night and Day magazine. Two month's later she launched Night and Day's new magazine Eve using her as the central image. Over 200 pictures of her were to grace the pages of these magazines.

One of the highlights of her career when she was asked by the great pin-up artist Alberto Vargas to pose for one of his calendars. His images of Irish were used in True and Cavalier magazines, and also used on a deck of playing cards. Vargas was the only artist that she posed for nude, he even helped her with own artwork.

Irish's biggest moment came when she was asked to stand in for Anita Eckberg for the lead in Sheena queen of the Jungle It didn't take long for people to wonder "Anita who?" The first episode, "Forbidden Cargo" was broad cast on September 16th, 1956; the last "Touch of Death" was seen on March 17th, 1957. The show lasted only for 26 episodes.

After television there was the films, the most noted of them would be, the cult classic She Demons The best of her films would have to be Five Gates to Hell where she plays a nun (no leopard skins involved, damn) Sadly though Irish had already been typecast as Sheena, and she would go on to make only about 6 films.

With Hollywood behind her, Irish plunged full time into the painting se had loved when she was younger. She now has created over 1,000 paintings, and had 8 collector plates and numerous limited edition lithographs to her credit. Irish's paintings have graced the Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry, and has sold originals for prices up to $12,000. Most are priced around $1,500 to $6,000 (for folks like us, grin) She also runs her own company McCalla Enterprises, Inc.
Her work is on view at the Los Angeles Museum of Arts and Sciences, and the Cowgirl Hall of Fame.

Club Pinup Presents Sari

Sari
(From the good people who brought us Claudia Shiffer and Marlene Deitrich)

"I was born in a very, very small town where the lambs and wolves say goodnight to each other"

In Hollywood there is a thousand stories of young ladies that leave the past behind and head for the city to make it big. To make something of themselves and put there name up in lights. Some of those stories can actually be read on this website (See Jeanne Carmen). What makes this story so much more interesting is, it is not happening in Hollywood, or New York, but in Dusseldorf Germany.

The girl in our story is Sari, a young lady from a sleepy town somewhere in the Germany. She is the oldest of two children, and was raised mainly by her Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Whom she says she got her knockout curves from. But the slow paced life of the country could not contain Sari. In her own words she described it i as "small town life is nice... but damn boring!!!!".

So it's off to the bright lights of Dusseldorf Germany! Sadly tragedy struck as soon as she got there and she lost her job that she had for only 4 weeks. Not letting anything derail her, Sari stuck it out, determined not to go back home, and now actually works as a full time Pin-up. Sari's start wasn't easy though, she endured through many bad photo sessions, some she never even received copies of her own photo's. After one shoot, they actually used her images with a different artist name and not hers. Ever determined she finally landed her first paid session through FotoCommunity.com, and Sari hasn't looked back yet. Since then Sari has been seen in many magazines, calendars, and websites worldwide. When not modeling Sari works as a secretary, she is the self proclaimed 'Fastest typist this side of the Rhine River'. You can contact Sari for booking through her website. www.retro-model.de

Many young Pin-up models today got there start from the underground rockabilly, ska and swing music movement. Sari started her fascination of the Pin-up world when she received a book called
1000 Pin up Girls She loved the book so much she wanted to be a Pin-up model herself. Since then Sari has done much research on the subject, and own volumes of books and reference on the genre and history of the Pin-up. Her knowledge shows up in her fabulous and fun photo artwork.

Like many of the models that you see in this genre Sari is a Pinup because she loves the glamour and spirit of this genre of photography. Sometimes working with photographers with no background in Pin-ups Sari brings her own ideas, inspirations, costumes, and set items to get the right end result. Sari is a lady who seems to truly enjoy what she does, you can see it in the playfulness and attitude of her product.

So our story of the struggling young startlet, thrown into the big city to find fame and fortune has just begun. What exciting drama and action will become of Young Sari? We will all watch with anticipation.

Good Luck Sari, keep up the great work!

P.S. oh I used a little liberty on the helpless little girl in the big city story. I think Sari was trying to tell me she left her small hometown cause she was bored, so I spiced it up.

There is no free Porn on the internet.

There is no Fountain of Youth, just like there is No Free Adult Content on the internet. Many have wasted there lives looking for both of those in vain. (I know first hand, with the later)

There are some semi free sites known as referral sites. Referral sites give you a sneak peak of many different sites, with every other click sending you to a signup page. The deal is they get a cut of the sign up fee for that site, and so it is a business. This section of my site is kinda like that, Doh!

I spent the last 8 years with my website ClubPinup.com posting pictures and writing articles about famous woman models actresses and performers of the past. I have posted thousands of photos, for millions of viewers, and never made a dime, for some twisted reason I do it for the enjoyment. That was the spirit of the internet in the past, people posted stuff on the net as a hobby. There are still tons of cool sites out there, but there is too much shit to filter through to find it anymore.

So is this latest endeavor of mine, trying to lure you into clicking on a link to a pay site so I can make a buck? Damn right it is! The main reason I am doing it is, I simply like posting pictures of ladies on the internet, that is my hobby. I am trying to do it in the most un-obnoxious way possible, while still providing you with a wealth of cool images. So hopefully the pain of being asked to join a pay site wont hurt as much. Hopefully I can have my fun entertain someone, and then make a buck on the side.

Will I be posting Pornography? Nope. Not because I have a problem with that. I actually enjoy my porn as much as the next person. I just have a strong line between looking at a beautiful women and porn. To me one is art and one is a tool for masturbation. I will not get into a discussion of the art of Pornography, there is art everywhere you look. It's not my kinda art sorry. I know my parents would probably disagree, but that's just me. It's my site, I post what I like :)

So take a look around, I hope you enjoy what you see. I am slowly going through tons of legally post able content, and trying to find stuff I like. I am also looking for content that I am allowed to post in the manner that I wish. As long as I keep enjoying this, and my ADD under control the content will keep coming in. So stay posted.

P.S. Hey do you collect images? I have over 40 gigs of .jpg and images (not including video) I have collected and scanned for the last 10 plus years. Are you interested in the same style of stuff that you see here and on
ClubPinup.com and in Playboy and Maxim magazine? One of her fondest memories is performing at the Laguna Molton Theater. "I was six years old, by far the youngest in the show." Lana told Club Pin-up "When I sang my solo there was always a couple of seconds when everyone would walk off the stage except me, and I could hear the audience start to whisper and giggle because they thought I forgot to leave the stage. Then the spotlight would hit me and I'd sing my song like my life depended on it! I loved getting everyone up on their feet every night."

Later Lana got her first modeling gig for Miller's Outpost, and proceeded headlong into much more modeling, as well as commercial and voice-over work. It wasn't till the late 90's that Lana started thinking of pursuing her own ideals and focusing on her first passion of singing and Pin-up Modeling. Currently Lana is working on transforming Lana Landis to showcase her vocal talents.

More than your average pretty face and talented singer, Lana is a fuller package, she is an intelligent, business savvy, entrepreneurial, and patriotic woman. Having one of the most dynamic, and well designs sites in the Pinup genre on the net. (lanalandis.com) Lana originally started programming and publishing her website herself. Now through her direction , it is now created by 24-7 Media. Lana supports her own line of T-shirts and soon her own custom Bubble Bath. I myself can't wait to see the advertising campaign for that!

In the true footsteps of the Pinup model, Lana is admired by many of our fighting men overseas. Just like Betty Grable in WW2 and Marylin during the Korean War, Lana corresponds with our American men and women fighting overseas. Her letters and photos let our troops know there is definitely something good to come home to.

here is a picture and excerpt from some of our Infantry in Iraq.

"...Not sure if the news is portraying it, but we continue to do good work everyday and make a positive impact on the Iraqi people. One look at a photo of Bernie's Mother and Grandmother you would understand. It didn't happen overnight ...

Take one sailor on leave falling in love with a young sultry burlesque dancer and shortly thereafter you get Bernie Belle future model extraordinaire.

Bernie's fascination with pinup culture started at an early age watching her mother transform from mother of a young 5 year old to sexy vixen. A great fan of Sunday morning movies Bernie started to see the world in Technicolor. The glamorous dancing singing actresses of the screen gave her the itch, and shortly thereafter she was getting her own Dancing and acting lessons.

By the age of 12 her mother entered Bernie in her first beauty pageant, and she learned the basics of modeling, poise, balance and proper walking form. Bernie continued the pageant circuit till the age of 18 winning such titles as 'Miss Teen San Diego County U.S.A.'

Around the time of the end of Bernie's retirement from pageant life, she entered the world of the Rockabilly music revival. A scene that is much a lifestyle of looks, attitude, and cars as that of the music itself. Attending cosmetology school Bernie worked as a hairdresser, attending photo shoots doing makeup, wardrobe, and set design. Soon all this started to meld together to make something special.

The body of a dancer, confidence of an actress, Poise and body awareness of a pageant contestant, Schooled in cosmetology, self taught aficionado of the golden age of glamour and pinup culture. Well it is a daunting and never ending task, I would say I am about 85% complete. Consequently if you would like a copy of my collection email me at ricandrews@msn.com we ca work something out. I was acquiring photos by many means which I wont get into but I came across an interesting picture that stopped me in my tracks.

picture here

It struck me, milky white skin, Bettie Page bangs, garters. This wasn't your regular model. The name was spelled Dieta Von Teese, which was misspelled correct spelling is Dita Von Teese (I believe) and didn't help me in my search for more images. After a few tens of thousands I started to have a collection maybe 8 or 10. I still didn't know was it Dita or Dieta? Who knows it wasn't important, I just knew I was a fan. I knew she was a fairly mainstream model cause she kept popping up on newsgroups and sites where guys like me hunt and trade photos, and she was already featured in Playboy lingerie catalogs and photo shoots.

Here is what was special, Dita was the first professional model that I saw that had a Retro Pinup look. As she became more popular, she started to lean much more towards the 40's and 50's style of Pinup and Club photography. I would guess that as you build clout as a model you get a little more say in how you would like to be photographed. I would be interested to ask her ... hmm never mind.

In the time that I have been writing about Pinup culture and history on the net (10 years now) I have always noticed model sites on the internet. Young ladies trying to promote themselves on the internet. I have always been a big fan of that, but it has only been in the last 5 years that you are starting to see a strong force of the new Retro Model.

What is interesting, is this. Women models of the new retro genre always mention the feelings of beauty, playfulness, femininity and empowerment they get when they talk of models like Bettie Page or others. Somehow they feel that what they do is different than an ordinary model. The truth is there is. Here is my theory.

Pinup modeling and Burlesque of the 40's and 50's was a business fueled by a male market. Men bought the magazines and men paid to see the shows. Much as it is today. As tame as those magazines and shows seem today, it was very risqué and drew a much different customer than it does today. Those magazines that I proudly show to guests in my home, and display on my walls, were hidden under mattresses and deep inside of closets then. What that era represented then is not what we think it is today. As times change, taste and culture changes. Younger pinup and burlesque stars started baring more and entertaining less. Men's magazines quit being cute and fun and started to look more like gynecological exams. Even pornography has become less fun lately, there seems to be no imagination or fantasy left in modeling anymore. There is still some though. You just need to be determined, discriminating, and dedicated, and you will find the good stuff. So if you think the good stuff is the gynecological exam photo, or the porn flick with no plot, then sadly your on the wrong web page.

So I salute you, they new and bold Retro, Fetish, Burlesque model. Who shows us the most beautiful parts of the female creature, strength, beauty, sensuality, and playfulness. Doing it all while still leaving a sense of mystery. What you are doing is different, and alot more meaningful to many. It is artful, it is beautiful, and it does deserve to hang on the walls of my house :) hehe
Best luck in your careers, and thanks for all your hard work.

Oh if you are a Retro, Fetish, Cheesecake, Glamour Model, and would like me to do a special section or biography on you in the fashion of the classic models on my site, send me an email. Getting pregnant while still in High School at the age of 17. Quickly marrying her boyfriend Paul Mansfield, Jayne completed high school, and shortly there after gave birth to her first daughter, Jayne Marie.

Paul got drafted in the Korean war and in his absence Jayne attended acting schools in California and Texas. All the while taking advantage of military and campus beauty contests and art modeling projects which didn't always sit well with her husband. While Jayne made a few Hollywood auditions, and started the pursuit of her acting modeling career. Paul started to feel distanced, and asked her to make the career or marriage decision. Jayne chose the career, and quickly became a notorious party crasher, at swanky Hollywood events.

One thing that sealed Jayne's stardom was her dogged determination. She was once quoted as saying. "Ever since I was a little girl I was convinced I would be a star. I haven't got there yet, but I will. It's 80% determination and 20% talent." Using this plan, Jayne took every job, entered every pageant, and pulled every stunt that was available to her. In her later years she would be tagged as a show boater, and shameless self promoter. Some even accused her of staging a terrible boating accident and stranding, as a stunt for publicity.

Hard worked paid off, Jayne made a string of appearances in movies around 1955. Strangely her first big break was not in Hollywood but in New York city, in the Broadway play 'Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter' Critics loved her great comedic timing, and incredible figure.

On May 26, 1956 Jayne was attending a Mae West show when she met her love Mickey Hargitay, the 6' 2" 245lb Mr. Universe of 1955 . He was one of the muscle men that was in Mae's show. Mae West was a notoriously possessive and jealous woman, when hearing of Jayne and Mickey's romance instructed Mickey to publicly announce his love for Mae. At the press conference Mickey did the opposite and proclaimed his undying love for Jayne Mansfield, and was promptly knocked out of his chair by another one of Mae's muscle men.

20th Century Fox, sought after Jayne at this time, and though they were a little wary of her publicity antics she was hired on and given the star role in the Film version of 'The Girl Can't Help it'. Shortly thereafter the movie version of 'Will success Spoil Rock Hunter' with Tony Randall was made. Those two films are the best of Jayne's work both of them were comedies that played off of her well endowed features. Later Tony Randall remarked that Jayne played a caricature of Marilyn Monroe that became an old joke very fast, and which very soon became a tragic joke.

After her Cinematic climax of 1956 1957, Jayne fell back in to shameless self promotion. Some efforts were legendary, and some were forget ably embarrassing. Her most famous stunt was the welcome to California she extended to Sophia Loren at the Romanoff Room in Hollywood, to commemorate her first big American film. Jayne went to Sophia's table with the press at hand, and congratulated her on her success, while meanwhile dropping her cleavage in Sophia, and the Camera's face. The pictures are classic, Jayne in all her glory while Sophia looks as if she doesn't know what to say.

The comparisons to other actresses and models went on and so did the bosom battles of who had the largest figure, and the most ample talents. Sadly the work and caliber of movies she received were ever diminishing in quality and quantity. It seemed the caricature was wearing thin.

Jayne Star slowly fizzled, she performed more and more poor career choices. She posed nude for Playboy numerous times, each time revealing more, and did a nude movie scene which was very risqué at that time. None of them seemed to do anything to stop the downward spiral. She broke off her relationship with Mickey Hargitay for Enrico "Boom Boom" Bomba a film producer in Rome. That did not last long nor help her career.

At 2:15 am on June 29th 1967 died in a car accident on the way to New Orleans. Jayne Always lived larger than life and after that point she entered the realm of Cult Super Stardom. She lived an incredible life of lavishness, driven by her desire to be a star.

"If you're going to do something wrong, do it big, because the punishment is the same either way."

Hope you enjoyed the bio I providedwrite me at ricandrews@msn.com, if you would like to talk about Jayne Mansfield, trade pictures or add info to this site, thanks Ric

What is it with Jayne Mansfield?

I have been reluctantly writing a biography on Jayne Mansfield for the website. I say reluctantly because, some strange reason I have never been a huge fan of Jayne, but I know she is hugely popular with visitors to Club Pinup. So as I was doing my research, reading articles, biographies, and watching her on film, I tried to figure out why. Visually there is not much to complain about, especially when she was young, a complete knockout, incredible figure and face to match. So whats the problem?

I started to find the answer as I watched her on film. She did make some noteworthy films. The Girl Cant Help it and Will Sucsess Spoil Rock Hunter, but as I watched I started to notice some things. Her motions seemed to be mechanical and contrived, like she wasn't that comfortable in her body. I am not talking about her acting skills, which isn't her strong point. I noticed even when she walked posed or spoke in film or stage every move seemed scripted, just slightly askew. You had to watch really close though.

So I watched some Marilyn Monroe film footage, now that is smooth. Marilyn seemed to really be in her skin. Even if the moves or poses were contrived or scripted. She sold it. When you watch Marilyn there is something really sensual about her. Acting aside, you get the impression that in the real world Marilyn was really comfortable with her body, the movements and sensuality was all just natural. Maybe that's just acting, beats me.

Thinking of this reminded me of the women I have known and dated in my real life. I have not always been pulled into a woman by mere looks alone. Well at first I am, just like any other man. Here is an example of someone I knew that was beyond physical beauty.

There was once a girl from my work place, we will call 'Lady Red'. When she arrived, every man at work was instantly magnetized. Now Lady Red was fairly flat chested, small chin, triangular face, and a little too hippy, but something about her was utterly distracting. Distracting to all the men who knew her not just me. She had a slightly southern accent, and a sleepy expression. Once you met her she had a carefree attitude, liked to party, and conversationally very open. She had this amazingly slow blink also, it was almost like the blink that Jeannie does on "I dream of Jeanne" You just wanted her attention any time you saw her. There was not a masculine thing about her, 100 percent woman, walk, talk, and attitude. It wasn't her looks but she emitted some strange pheramone that made men crazy.

As I looked around recently at other women that I know, I started to see it in others. Some not as strongly as Lady Red, or even Marilyn, but it was there.

So where is this going ... I am not sure, I guess the moral is, be observant. Women are amazing creatures, and should be appreciated, and adored. Learn the finer points beyond the physical beauty. I believe Sensuality is from within. So was Jayne Mansfield a complete Bombshell of a lady? I believe so, millions of men could not be wrong. Was she the most sensual woman in tune with her body and mind. My opinion is no.

Disagree post a message.

Ric
